| The Great Dome Church by the Singel channel was for a period a church for the Evangelic Lutheran parish. It was built in the second part of the seventeenth century as an addition to the church located on the Spui that by then had become too small for all its loyal members. During the restoration of the roof, on September the 18th in the year 1822, the dome of the church and a main part of the building was accidentally destroyed by fire. Exactly four years later the inauguration of the church took place. The organ was completed in the year 1830. The dome distinguishes itself for the beautiful acoustic. Nowadays the building is not any longer a church and is often used for concerts. |
